We joined Friendship Force in 2015, but we are very experienced international travelers. Jon wrote a Masters Thesis in the area of cross cultural communications and worked internationally for Hewlett Packard and other organizations as a Human Resources Director. Our son Matthew is a Medical Doctor and Anaesthetic Registrar in Brisbane Australia & his girlfriend is a Physician from Malaysia. Jon is currently Communications Director for FF of Haliburton Highlands and Acting President, currently in the process of starting a new FF Lake Simcoe club. Jon attended a FFI Leadership workshop in Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska in Oct. 2018 and Jon and Deborah attended a regional conference in Ottawa in Nov. 2018 with the objective of learning FF best practices and connect with other club leaders. We strongly believe in and are committed to the mission and values of Friendship Force and are committed to build a new club in the Lake Simcoe area that helps bridge cultural understanding in our own community, especially with the native community and newer immigrants. In 2019 we are traveling on international FF journeys in Indonesia and then visiting Malaysia just prior to heading on to journeys in New Zealand and Australia. We love to learn about the way people live and what they love about their country and about their history and cultures, sharing openly about what it means to us about being Canadian. Jon provided Human Resources, Organizational Development, and Change Management leadership and consulting internationally and cross-culturally for over 35 years in the private and public sectors at Hewlett Packard, Agilent, Oracle and Alcan as well as the Ontario Public Service, non-profit organizations and private sector clients. He started J Wagner Consulting Inc. in 2002 and www.VirtualeTeams.com in 2010 . He is a pioneer in working virtually and has written 3 books: “Building Effective Virtual & Remote Teams Handbook” and the ebook: “Guide to Collaboration Technologies” and has often been a speaker at major conferences. He now Volunteers as a webmaster, community organizer, club leader and helps with PC’s & technology. Deborah has over 42 years experience as a Dental Hygienist interspersed with 16 years as a Realestate Agent with numerous companies as well as being a top agent for Remax focused on waterfront. She now volunteers in Community development and Environmental issues. Together we live in Bayshore Village on beautiful Lake Simcoe in Ontario Canada, and love the water – swimming, boating, sailing, kayaking and biking with their tandem and Ebikes as well as hiking, reading, photography, wildlife sanctuaries and especially learning about and engaging in friendship with other cultures and faces, not just places around the world. Deb is an excellent chef & baker, always experimenting & inventing new recipes from around the world. Jon enjoys music (playing guitar/banjo) & learning everything about & helping people with new technology
